The inaugural mentoring initiative created by the Young Photographers Alliance will pair approximately ten professional photographers from around the world to each collaborate with up to three college students on a photo essay around a compelling social topic.
The teams will be given the same creative brief, to visually explore a pressing - yet positive - social topic that affects us all. Each team will create photographs from their unique viewpoint to create compelling photo essays. The images will be turned into a traveling exhibition and displayed at Picturehouse events and other public and industry events.
This program will launch the Alliance’s mentoring initiative and will demonstrate the vision and scope of the organization’s commitment to fostering and supporting the potential and dreams of young photographers throughout the world.
Development of the initiative has begun and the project will be completely defined with all players in place by the end of 2009. The mentoring program will be composed of approximately six sessions spread out over two months in early 2010. The Young Photographer’s Alliance will spearhead the entire project including; fund raising, identifying the professional and student photographers, development of a curriculum, managing and assisting the teams over the course of the project, collecting the images and stories to create a powerful exhibition along with a strategic public relations campaign.
The Alliance – seeking sponsors, media partners and mentors for the program – is looking to create a true partnership between all participants and welcomes any and all donations, volunteers and suggestions.
